Alzheimer's Institute looks to expand memory testing

LAKELAND — Seeking to expand the number of people screened for memory disorders and the pool of potential candidates for trials of new dementia drugs, representatives of the USF Health Byrd Alzheimer's Institute were in Lakeland Tuesday morning to find community partners.

The institute, now under the wing of the University of South Florida, does memory screening in Hillsborough County and works with nurses doing screening at The Villages, a large community about an hour north of Orlando. Its directors would like a respected, well-known group in Polk County to take the lead in providing screening here under the auspices of the institute and USF.
